Newport vs Port Vale
Sky Bet League 2
3:00pm Saturday 7th September
Rodney Parade
(Att: 3913)
Jamille Matt came from the bench and scored to earn a victory over Port Vale to Newport.
Matt’s close-range target usually means the Exiles are currently 17 games unbeaten in League 2 and only two points behind leaders Exeter.
Vale may count themselves lucky to have 11 guys later James Gibbons slid into Robbie Willmott with a full-blooded challenge going in at half-time and endured some deep pressure.
Corey Whitely and matt were introduced in the chair and united to split the breakthrough out.
Whitely jumped down the right wing, leaving Adam Crookes in his wake, before crossing the ball to score his first of the season.
Vale captain Leon Legge then draged down in the box the Exiles striker but Padraig Amond saw his penalty saved by Scott Brown, diving to his left.
Legge hit the bar with a header in time but Newport saw the game to continue their unbeaten start to the season out.
