Premier League leaders Liverpool shrugged off an early scare to sweep beyond Newcastle and keep their 100% start to the season with a different attacking screen that was dominant.
Sadio Mane was their go-to man, scoring in the first half after Jetro Willems’ good target for Newcastle had given a shock early lead to Steve Bruce’s side.
Mohamed Salah added a third following the break, with the part of Liverpool’s attacking trinity Roberto Firmino hammering the show with a superb performance in the bench and supplying two aids.
The Reds have now won 14 league matches in a row at a series that goes back into a draw at Everton in March – that the joint third-best winning streak in English top-flight history – and move five points clear at the top, together with second-placed Manchester City playing in the evening game.
Newcastle never jeopardized to construct their surprise lead – that came with their only shot on target all day – and also couldn’t get near the European champions for large periods of a game.
They remain a stage above the bottom , in place.
The spotlight was at Burnley after their disagreement out time on Mane and Salah.
But back on the front of home ground Liverpool were on exactly the identical page and again proved the difference.
Firmino played with an hour for Brazil in a match that finished morning in Los Angeles in midweek, and the plan was to give him a rest as Divock Origi.
However an accident for the Belgium striker meant the Brazil striker was introduced earlier than expected.
Mane had equalised by there, collecting a pass from Andrew Robertson and bending superbly into the upper corner.
Salah distinguished with a punch of the air, for those paying attention.
Firmino slipped in Mane and robbed Christian Atsu. Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka must have promised it but pushed it backwards towards Mane to permit the Liverpool at Anfield with a tap-in for his goal in his final 21 Premier League looks.
Following the break, Firmino was more striking, putting on chances for his full-backs before setting up the quiet Salah with a assist.
Receiving the ball back to goal, the Brazil player hauled the ball then backheeled it.
Manchester City’s set of 18 top-flight wins in a row stays on the agenda for Liverpool – as does Chelsea’s record of eight wins in a row at the beginning of a Premier League season.
