Roger Federer insists he has still had a ‘positive’ season despite US Open exit

Roger Federer insists he has had a”positive” year despite being not able to grow his Grand Slam tally.
The 20-time big winner had appeared destined for a box-office final against Rafael Nadal in what would have been the great rivals’ first meeting at the usa Open but the Swiss superstar suffered a shock defeat at the hands of Grigor Dimitrov from the quarter-finals at Flushing Meadows.
Dimitrov had not beaten Federer in any of their past seven games, and had taken off him. But the Bulgarian sealed the win of his career against the 38-year-old in five sets on Tuesday below the Arthur Ashe lights.
Fresh from a reduction at the All-England Tennis Club, the abrupt end to Federer’s run in New York raised questions if the 38-year-old could send to a 21st Grand Slam title.
“I do not have the crystal . Do you?” Said the seed, then a reporter asked when he expected to win a second Grand Slam title at his age.
“We never know. I hope so, needless to say. I believe it has been a season. Disappointing now, but I’ll get up, I’ll be all right.”
Federer also laid out an aggressive schedule of contests.
“Laver Cup, Shanghai, Basel, maybe Paris, London. That’s the schedule for the time being. I don’t know if the team have other thoughts or maybe not,” said Federer. “I am delighted to find a tiny break now, go back to practice, reassess and strike from there.”
In four weeks, he will renew his attempt to add to his Grand Slam coffers at the Australian Open, in which he gathered his final title in 2018.
“(I’ve ) got to take the losses. They’re a part of the game,” additional Federer. “Looking forward to family and all that stuff, so life is all right”
