Dublin are champions for a fifth time in a row, after a hard-fought 1-18 to 0-15 victory on a spirited Kerry outfit.
Nobody could level an accusation which they had a simple ride en route to encircle the unprecedented’five’, since they were pushed all the way by a emerging Kerry outfit.
The Dubs got off to a start. Racing to a 0-5 to 0-1 lead, they had the momentum in the early phases. Con O’Callaghan and Paul Mannion, that had been kept silent in the drawn game, were doing real damage, notching five points between them before the rest, while Ciar??n Kilkenny also chipped in with a trio of his own.
The Kingdom definitely believed that there has been a weakness to be exploited at the Dubs’ fullback lineup, sending in three high balls. They came out with nothingand were forced to change strategy.
The Munster side got a foothold. David Clifford, that was picked up by Michael Fitzsimons, sending the ball across the bar with pinpoint precision and found space.
Paul Geaney was having a huge effects. Really, Se??n O’Shea, Geaney and Clifford had bagged three factors each.
When Conor Lane called a halt to proceedings after a stunning first stage, they were flat at 0-10 apiece, and it was Kerry that were the more joyful given they had twice trailed by four factors.
As it had been confirmed that Diarmuid Connolly was replacing Jack McCaffrey, there was a feeling it had been a setback to the Sky Blues. But seconds after the statement, the Dublin buffs were sent into raptures. Eoin Murchan made a storming run through the heart of the Kerry defence picked up possession off the throw-in, also smashed it.
Seconds later, it was followed by Paul Mannion up along with the Dubs led by four again.
But when it was required, Kerry mustered a response. Consecutive points from O’Shea, Geaney and Clifford reeled from the favourites, and the charges of Peter Keane sent a message – they weren’t likely to roll .
As the game went on the sides went point-for-point, and the chairs were also drained.
Nonetheless a James McCarthy score gave the Dubs a guide for the very first time.
As they amassed seven second-half wides, with the match at the melting pot, scores started to allude the Kingdom.
Since they secured a victory ultimately, Dublin is put by two points out of Dean Rock out of sight.
There are grounds for optimism around Kerry football – this young team pushed one of the best teams all the way, and those 2 sides could contest several more populous in the next few years.
But for the time being, it’s the afternoon of Dublin, it is the year of Dublin, and also for the first time ever, the Sam Maguire Cup is reserving into a county for a consecutive winter.
