World winner Bianca Walkden took silver in the World Taekwondo Grand Prix in Japan following a loss to arch rival Zheng Shuyin in the +67pound class.
This had been the first meeting between the group because Walkden victory from the Chinese Olympic champion in the World Championship in May.
There the Briton used strategies to force Zheng into a collection of penalties, and which resulted in her disqualification when major 20-10.
Walkden led 5-0 after the opening around in Japan, in which she broke, but Zheng levelled from the third to force a decider.
Team-mate Christian McNeish impressively defeated world winner Lee Dae-hoon of all South Korea 33-26 at the -68kg semi-finals.
However, Iran’s Asian Games champion Mirhashem Hosseini proved too strong as he moved into a controlling 36-20 success.
Bradly Sinden – competing for the very first time since getting the world champion in the sport in May of Britain – endured a last-16 defeat by Edival Pontes at the -68pound branch.
Olympic silver medallist Lutalo Muhammad will measure up his return after a succession of injuries in the men’s heavyweight division on Saturday, and it may also contain Mahama Cho that is team-mate.
European winner Lauren Williams may have a significant step towards qualifying for Tokyo 2020 and will contain at the women’s -67 kg division.
