The Sporting Events with the Biggest Betting Volume

The FIFA World Cup

Football (football ) is the world’s most popular game, and it makes sense that it brings in the most money. Each year, it’s estimated that soccer makes up 70 percent of their above-listed $1 trillion!

The FIFA World Cup is the best tournament in the soccer calendar, happening every four years. Despite a runtime of just one month, the World Cup provides an enormous quantity of gambling opportunities.

The competition kicks off with 210 countries participating in the qualifying rounds, then fighting it out through different phases to produce the last 32. Bettors from all over the world are able to place wagers each step of the way. Even though there aren’t some official figures as to how much can be bet worldwide throughout the whole tournament, it is estimated to be greater than $260 million.

The Super Bowl
If we focus on the American landscape, the National Football League is king. Bets around the NFL make up almost half of sports stakes placed, together with the Super Bowl being the single most popular betting event throughout the sporting year.

The 2018 Super Bowl LII, that found the Eagles stick it to the Patriots, brought in a record-breaking $158.6 million worth of wagers at Nevada sportsbooks. This shocking figure broke the list of $138.5 million wagered during the Super Bowl LI the preceding calendar year.

Obviously, these are only the official (legal) figures. According to estimates made from the American Gaming Association, the real total wagered was probably in the area of $4.76 billion.

March Madness
The NCAA tournament is among the highlights for sports fans and bettors alike. 68 teams fight it out through seven single-elimination rounds in 1 month with the expectation of being named winners.

Figures from the American Gaming Association (AGA) predicted that more than $10 billion would be wagered on the 2018 NCAA men’s basketball tournament. A mere fraction of that amount (3 percent ) was likely bet lawfully.

Nevertheless, considering that betting is legal in only 1 state then $300 million total stakes on a single sporting event is madness!

Kentucky Derby
The Kentucky Derby is one of the most important horse racing events in the United States and is, in fact, one of the longest-running sports events from the country. The event Occurs on the first Saturday of May in the Churchill Downs racetrack in Louisville, Kentucky.
