Mick McCarthy remains upbeat on Republic of Ireland Euro 2020 qualification chances

Mick McCarthy has defended the Republic of Irelands performance in Georgia.
Ireland were held together with Denmark defeating Switzerland 1-0 in the night to join them after six fixtures on very top of Group D 12 points on Saturday afternoon, to a lacklustre 0-0 draw in Tbilisi.
But McCarthys side will advance to next years finals with a victory over Switzerland, that they play with on Tuesday in Geneva night – live on Sky Sports.
Ireland will book their place at Euro 2020 when they can defeat Denmark on November 18 under lights in the Aviva Stadium even if they dont see the Swiss off.
I really dont get it, I truly dont do it. I believe everybody could have taken the position were in today, going to Switzerland and when we win, we all qualify; if we defeat Denmarkwe qualify, McCarthy told FAI TV.
Obviously, the peddlers of despair and gloom will saywell, we have no chance of winning. I dont get that. Who knows, who knows whats going to happen?
Weve been all right. Weve performed better against the better sides, so we have given greater performances. Im looking forward to it – the pressure is on them [Switzerland] on Tuesday night.
Switzerland might expect to complete their fittings per month from a house clash with Georgia along with a trip to Gibraltar and trail Denmark and Ireland but have played a game more.
McCarthy added:It has left us if we win one of the matches , we all qualify. That is what Im led to think.
It is head-to-head contrary to them, therefore when we win on Tuesday, weve qualified.
If youd have stated to me on December 1 if the draw had been [made], Id have accepted it, of course I would.
McCarthy verified that Sheffield United striker David McGoldrick is struggling which means Brighton striker Aaron Connolly could be included.
The 19-year-old came off the bench at the Boris Paichadze Arena and snatched victory with just two chances late in the match.
McCarthy explained:Hes come into the squad, hed his cameo in the end, and then of course the matter is, could I have played him more?
I could have started him and he might not have played very well from the beginning in a rough and tumble match. He might have scored all those situations, from the beginning.
But had started rather than played well, then that would happen to be well, he shouldnt have had a introduction, usual stuff, which I understand is coming. whatever happens it does not matter what happens, youll get selected holes.
I think he did good if he arrived on. He had his chances in a match that started to have stretched, starting to develop into wide-open.
So hes had a great cameo appearance and Ive no doubt hes ready to begin.
