Roger Federer insists he has still had a ‘positive’ season despite US Open exit

Roger Federer insists he has still had a”positive” season despite being unable to add to his Grand Slam tally.
The 20-time key winner had looked destined for a box-office final against Rafael Nadal in what could have become the wonderful rivals’ first meeting in the usa Open but the Swiss legend suffered a shock defeat in the hands of Grigor Dimitrov in the quarter-finals at Flushing Meadows.
Dimitrov had obtained just two sets off him, and hadn’t beaten Federer in any of their seven games. Nevertheless, the Bulgarian secured the biggest victory of his career against the 38-year-old in five sets on Tuesday under the Arthur Ashe lights.
Fresh from a heart-breaking loss in the All-England Tennis Club, the ending to Federer’s conduct in New York raised concerns whether the 38-year-old can send on a 21st Grand Slam title.
“I don’t have the crystal ball. Do you?” Then a reporter asked if he expected to win another Grand Slam title at his era, said the seed.
“We never know. I am hoping so, of course. I believe still it’s been a year. Disappointing today, but I’ll get back up, I will be all perfect.”
Federer laid out an aggressive schedule of contests.
“Laver Cup, Shanghai, Basel, maybe Paris, London. That’s the schedule for the time being. I don’t know if the team have other thoughts or maybe not,” said Federer. “I am happy to receive a small break today, return to clinic, reassess and attack from there.”
In four months, he’ll renew his effort to add at the Australian Open, where he collected his final name in 2018.
“(I have) got to accept the losses. They are a part of the game,” additional Federer. “Looking forward to family time and all that stuff, so life’s all right.”
