It was terrifying at the 8th and 9th inning for the Chicago Cubs yesterday day, however, the bullpen ultimately got the job done to secure a 2-0 success. The night before, the Cubs managed to blow what looked like a secure lead in the 9th. But an identical fate was not going to happen again for the Cubs. Tyler Chatwood and Rowan Wick combined to pitch three perfect innings, allowing no runs and no hits. The real mistake was Tyler Chatwood.
Chatwood has developed in the best reliever the Cubs have within their bullpen. Joe Maddon simply hasn’t been using him enough, often turning to his traditional relievers instead of Chatwood, that has mostly been used as a starter in his profession. One of the problems with not turning into Chatwood more often is the sum of work he gets out of the bullpen.
If items are rolling, he’s usually eclipsing 3 innings about the bulge, so that takes him out of this equation to get the following moment. Maddon has been careful to maintain his arm down the stretch to the most significant period of their regular season. However, after blowing off what should happen to be a certain win on Friday night, the Cubs had to visit Chatwood to get a few of their mojo back in the clubhouse.
Jon Lester must find some recognition in this spot as well. Lester was moving through struggles, but appears to be back on the perfect track. The Cubs are going to want him down the stretch if they would like to be playing in October. Lester was eloquent in 6 innings, having allowed just 4 hits and no runs. The Cubs will turn into Jose Quintana tonight, even while the Pirates will proceed with Mitch Keller on Sunday Night Baseball. Head below for our complimentary Cubs vs. Pirates select.

Mitch Keller will be making only his fifth important league start this day and it comes from primetime on Sunday Night Baseball. The beginner is getting some valuable experience up in the big leagues with the Pirates. It has been a choppy start to his career, using a couple of horrible outings and a couple that went pretty well. His best effort came into his latest outing, as he was eloquent with just 1 earned run allowed in 5 innings against the Angels in Anaheim.
In his other positive outing, Keller surrendered 4 hits and two earned runs to the Tigers in the home. The Tigers have one of the worst offenses in baseball, so that could have only been a consequence of playing a lousy team. Keller was abysmal against the Braves and Reds in his other two outings, permitting 12 earned runs in 7 innings of work.
Luckily , he was able to bring down his numbers against the Tigers and the Angels, however, the harm was done. Keller heads into Sunday night by an ERA of 7.94 along with 2.00 WHIP. He would get a huge rush of confidence if tonight demonstrates to be a victory nighttime in the office. I’m not so sure that he gets from this one with a leading stat line, though. The Cubs slept afternoon and holding them down like that is going to be tough to the Pirates.
The Pirates get a date. He has been throwing extremely well recently. The Athletics and Phillies scored only 2 runs in complete across 13 innings of play Quintana. Quintana goes into this one with the impressive 1.89 ERA and 0.79 WHIP in his past three outings.
It’s been five trips since he has allowed over 3 runs at a beginning and 3 or less runs in seven of their last eight appearences. The Pirates are hitting just .202 with 3 home runs strike from Quintana from 124 showings at the plate. The Cubs have had their struggles on the road in 2019, but look for them to wrap up this road trip with a win on Sunday Night Baseball.
